What can we actually do when someone is in suicidal crisis?

Joy Hibbins BEM is the founder and CEO of Suicide Crisis and was awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of her services to people experiencing suicidal crisis.

Drawing on her experience of establishing and running an award-winning Suicide Crisis Centre, Joy shares a practical toolkit for supporting people through periods of acute suicidal distress.

At the heart of her approach is a simple but powerful commitment: to do everything we can, for each individual, to help them survive.

Through practical strategies and real-life examples, Joy explores what can make a meaningful difference in moments of crisis, why particular approaches work, and the importance of persistence, flexibility and tenacity when supporting someone who may have lost hope.

Key takeaways:

• a person-centred approach to supporting individuals in crisis
• how suicide risk can be misunderstood
• building a strong connection with individuals under your care
• a tenacious approach to protecting life
