We will examine:

  • The distinction between compulsive sexual behaviour and problematic pornography use
  • The role of shame, secrecy and identity fragmentation
  • Attachment dynamics and their impact on intimacy
  • Arousal regulation and nervous system involvement
  • The relational fallout for partners and couples

We will also touch on how compulsive porn and sex can function as self‑medication for ADHD‑related impulsivity, emotional overwhelm and rejection sensitivity.

The session will highlight how autistic and ADHD clients may experience desire, arousal and shame differently, and what this means for safe, affirming practice.

Clinical Takeaway

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Confidently differentiate sex addiction from porn addiction, avoiding moral framing or over-pathologising
  • Recognise how compulsive patterns function within the nervous system and attachment system, not just behaviourally
  • Conduct a structured, ethical assessment that identifies risk, secrecy cycles and relational impact
  • Intervene actively and safely in-session, using stabilisation, relational mapping and shame-reduction techniques
  • Know what not to do when working with sexual compulsivity
  • This is not a theoretical overview. It is a practical, clinically applicable framework you can integrate immediately into your practice
