Elliot Davis

Director

Elliot is a Director at The Grove Practice and a practising psychotherapist. He handles enquiries to The Grove’s therapy service, offering guidance on choosing a therapist and starting the therapy process. Elliot also manages The Grove’s programme of CPD courses along with involvement in our corporate services.

Elliot is certified as Clinical Trauma Profession Level I (CCCTP-Level I) and a Complex Trauma Professional (CCTP-II). He has worked extensively with survivors of domestic abuse, sexual abuse and rape, road accident survivors with life-changing injures and military veterans. He is accredited by the UKCP & BACP.

Therapeutic Approach

Elliot’s approach is to offer empathetic understanding, non-judgmental listening with a sense of calm. Every situation and person is different and therefore he draws on many different methods to work with people. This ‘integrative’ approach allows the widest possibility for change to occur. His aim is to connect each client with their own inner resources and to have the confidence of going forwards in a direction of their conscious choosing.

Elliot has experience of providing psychotherapy for clients with a wide variety of issues including: anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, depression, bereavement, trauma, phobias and relationship issues. Having worked for twenty years in the arts, he has a special understanding of the artistic temperament and the unique pressures that can bring.

Training History

Elliot’s initial training was completed at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy (CCPE) completing a combined academic/experiential five- year postgraduate Diploma.

He holds multiple accreditations including a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck University and Dip (Psych) from CCPE. He also holds further Certification in Couples Counselling and has studied various trauma treatment protocols. Elliot has worked within the NHS supporting a multi-disciplinary team in Acute Admissions. He has also worked in the charity sector and with all sizes of commercial organisations.

Trauma Therapy

Elliot has trained in a range of approaches to treating trauma. His focussed studies have been around the treatment of Dissociation, Increasing Awareness of Dysregulated Parts and Dissociative States, Working with Traumatic Memory in Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), Traumatic Attachment and the Treatment of Dissociative Disorders. He has further trained in the evidence-based protocol of CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) which falls under the NICE guidelines for Trauma-Focused CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

He has developed a specialist focus for symptomatic relief as a first stage in trauma treatment, using a range of approaches for emotional regulation and stabilisation of symptoms such as flashbacks or panic attacks, including STAIR (Skills Training in Affect and Interpersonal Regulation).

He has received CPD psycho-traumatology training with the following acclaimed teachers in the Trauma field:

  • Bessel van der Kolk MD

  • Dr Janina Fisher

EMDR and EFT

Elliot has trained in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or “tapping”), as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) training Level 1, 2, 3 with Sandi Richman

Elliot is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (Level 2 for Complex PTSD) recognised by IATP (International Association of Trauma Professionals). He has a wide range of experience working with trauma survivors including:

  • childhood sexual abuse

  • domestic abuse

  • bullying

  • road traffic accidents and accidents in the workplace

  • rape and sexual assault

  • developmental trauma (childhood emotional neglect or abuse)

  • military veterans and serving members of the armed forces
