Broaching the inclusivity conversation

Hear from an expert describing how to frame your therapeutic conversations. The intention is to increase your responsiveness with diverse clients as a way of deepening inclusivity in your therapy or supervision practice.

Event overview:

Most therapists want to be responsive and sensitive to clients or supervisees who feel marginalised or excluded because of discrimination or thoughtlessness or even overt abuse.

But many therapists tell us that they feel ignorant and clumsy about how to respond to diverse clients who talk about racism or sexism or ableism. There might be language terms you haven’t heard before or differences in lived experience being brought by clients or supervisees, often with strong feelings attached.

So this event outlines the topic, but with powerful ways of developing therapeutic presence and intersectional competence, exploring the impact on identity and social positionality.

We will discuss

  • What inclusivity means in theory and in practice
  • How to broach conversations responsively and reflexively
  • Practical tips on adapting your therapeutic practice

Clinical takeaway
This seminar will encourage you to reflect on how to position your practice and develop your competence in this important area.

It is an introductory interactive talk, providing a framework to examine your own stance and what to do or how to be when these topics arise in therapy or supervision.

To learn in more depth
We’re excited to be running a 5-day course starting in April 2026 which expands intersectional responsiveness skills for therapists, supervisors and trainers.
