Suicide Crisis - Founder and CEO

Joy Hibbins BEM is the founder and CEO of Suicide Crisis and was awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of her services to people experiencing suicidal crisis.

Drawing on her experience of establishing and running an award-winning Suicide Crisis Centre, Joy shares a practical toolkit for supporting people through periods of acute suicidal distress.

At the heart of her approach is a simple but powerful commitment: to do everything we can, for each individual, to help them survive.

Joy was named in the Queen’s New Year Honours list in 2019 for services to vulnerable people. In the previous year, she won the Janey Antoniou award for an “outstanding contribution to addressing stigma and improving the lives of people affected by mental illness”.

She has had two suicide prevention books published, The Suicide Prevention Guidebook and Suicide Prevention Techniques: How A Suicide Crisis Service Saves Lives: Waterstones  and she has written articles about suicide prevention for several national newspapers including the Huff Post UK, The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph and The Metro.
