Cheating and affairs

Relationships can be a source of great joy but they can also be a cause of huge distress – especially if cheating or affairs are discovered.

The person making the discovery usually wants to know all the details to get their head around it.

The person who’s been found out most often goes into panic mode, wanting the opposite: to minimise what details they reveal, in case the relationship ends as a result.

This tension can be hugely distressing. But there can also be an opportunity to understand what has happened and why. This means digging deep to understand how this situation arose and the part that each person played in creating the dynamics – either actively or passively. This exploration can be a big ask and a big task.

There can be complications if paid-for sexual services or porn or escorts are involved. It can be very painful to understand what emerges when dealing with these elements.

Those couples who stay together can rebuild their relationship in a stronger way, with the benefit of this kind of journey in therapy.
